Epilogue

My perfect day continued on with a lull in the fishing for a while after all of the excitement.  It did pick up again though and I managed to land 6 fish before we packed up the bait and started to head back to the ship.  On our way back though we wanted to do some trolling so Kurt, the local fisherman on board let a line out on his regular rig and was trying for small yellowfin tuna, shibi.  They are all over the area and cause quite a stir at the surface so they're easy to find.  He hooked up immediately and then let me reel it in so I could feel what it was like.  I got that one to the boat and I'm counting that as my #7 on the day!

He let me cast out again and same deal, hit right away only this time, just seconds after the tuna hit the line I saw this big red splash and then a large tail flip out of the water and splash down...a shark had just hit the tuna!!  I couldn't believe it.  Kurt starts yelling to reel it in as fast as I can so that he doesn't lose his lure so I'm reeling it in and the shark is chasing after it!  The head of the tuna is still attached to the hook and the damn shark is coming straight for the boat.  It got close enough to determine that it wasn't a tiger shark but we couldn't tell exactly what species it was.  I got the lure on board with the head of the tuna attached (picture to follow once I get back) and everyone found that to be quite amusing.  I put another line out but that same shark hit it again, putting up a great fight but eventually it took the lure and broke the line.  Although Kurt had just lost a $20 lure he was still in good spirits and said that's fishing.

We got back on the Sette a little bit later and my day improved even more with a phone call to Megan and while telling her about everything a pod of Pilot Whales swam by, one younger one was even breaching for me.  It was an absolutely perfect day.

Life is good...
